The US Marine Corps have granted a $58.6 million contract to Lockheed Martin for new equipment, systems and support services related to the Portable Deployment Surveillance Systems (PRDSS) and Vehicle Optic Sensor Systems II (VOSS II).
The Gyrocam VOSS, which is a vehicle mounted sensing system, could be mast mounted on almost any land vehicle and expeditionary system to meet remote surveillance requirements. It offers night vision, high resolution color and thermal sensors in a class gyro stabilized gimbal. The Gyrocam PRDSS is a compact, free-standing rapid deployment surveillance system, which could be easily shifted and installed in extreme terrain, rural and urban environments to provide the command personnel a complete view of the activities going on in the area.
According to Jay Pitman, General Manager and Director of Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems, both the PRDSS and the VOSS would give the Marines the required war-fighting capability to fulfill their evolving mission requirements. The products’ robust design and strong support team would help the Marines to maintain superb operational readiness for the PRDSS and the VOSS even in remote and harsh environments.
As per the contract, Lockheed Martin would provide additional equipment and field services to support 30 PRDSS and 110 VOSS II systems. The equipment would be manufactured at the company’s facility in Sarasota. So far, the company has installed over 900 Gyrocam camera systems on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles across Iraq and Afghanistan that give warfighters vital and critical capabilities to carry out threat surveillance missions in rugged environments.
