New Media-Isolated Digital Output Pressure Sensor from Measurement Specialties

Measurement Specialties, an expert in sensor design and manufacturing, now offers the 86BSD, a media-isolated digital output pressure sensor. Combining a low-profile, 16 mm diaphragm diameter with a rugged 316L stainless steel housing, the new sensor is ideal for high performance, low pressure applications in hostile environments.

The new piezoresistive silicon pressure sensor incorporates a custom ASIC for temperature compensation and offset correction. The 14-bit digital output supports both I2C and SPI interface protocols to meet specific application data requirements. The sensor provides both pressure and temperature readouts.

Mountable with an o-ring seal, the 86BSD is easily and securely installed in a number of applications including level control, sealed systems, manifold and barometric pressure measurement as well as submersible depth monitoring and corrosive fluids and gas measurement. Silicone oil accurately transfers the pressure from the 316L stainless steel diaphragm to the sensing element.

Configured in a backside, header-less design, the new sensor is both compact and cost-effective to use. It is available in a pressure range of 1 psi to 300 psi (0.07 bar to 20 bar) in either absolute or gage references with an operating temperature of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C.

The unit provides a total error band (TEB) of up to +/-1%Span, which includes calibration errors and temperature effects over the compensated range of -20 degrees C to +85 degrees C, as well as an accuracy of +/-0.25%Span.

Technical Specifications:

  • 14-bit digital output with I2C and SPI interfaces
  • ASIC calibrated
  • 1 psi to 300 psi (0.07 bar to 20 bar)
  • Low power option available
  • Operating temperature of -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C
  • Supply voltages of 3.3 VDC or 5.0 VDC

Pricing for an 86BSD is $20 per unit in quantities of 10,000. Delivery time is dependent upon quantity ordered.
