SonAire® M3is 95 kHz Sensor for Monitoring Combustible Fluids

The MassaSonic® SonAire® Series M3 and M3is Sensors consist of battery operated wireless level sensors capable of intercommunicating using ZigBee RF Modules. The M3is versions are intrinsically safe rated for CIDI, zone Ø and CID2 environments. These sensors possess detection ranges from 4″ (100 mm) to 35′ (10.7 m).

The sensors incorporate with advanced ultrasonic technology and provide precision non-contact distance measurement for industrial or liquid level process control and tank monitoring. The M3is is unique compared to all other systems because of its exceptional ease of operation, affordability, and ability to be installed and calibrated without using a target when compared to other long range intrinsically safe sensors.

It conveys narrow beam sound pulses, processes return echoes, and reports out the distance to the target. The sensor housing material is all Kynar (PVDF) to offer superior chemical resistance in the toughest industrial environments.

SonAire® Sensors measure and store data such as battery voltage, temperature, range, and other sensor parameters at user-prescribed time intervals. An internal pushbutton switch is used to commission the sensor onto the ZigBee network, and an LED detects the operating mode.

The SonAire® Sensors are RoHS compliant, and the package is rated for high-pressure washing and immersion in compliance with IP67. The batteries are universally available lithium AA type and are easily accessible for replacement. Typical battery life is 4 years.

All SonAire® Series Sensors are offered in two versions. SonAire M3is Sensors are available for use in harardous environments. The SonAire M3is Sensors are certified by Factory Mutual as complying to the requirements of Class 1 Div 1 (C1D1), All Groups, which is the maximum rating. Standard SonAire M3 Sensors are designed for operation in all standard applications.

SonAire® M3is

The SonAire® M3is design is well suited to monitor combustible solid or fluid materials and fixed/portable chemical tanks in remote locations or factories where environmental hazards may be an operational consideration. It has been designed keeping in mind site privacy, like cloud based inventory breaches.

The IS model is particularly effective for mining, oil patch, waste storage, wastewater operation with methane gas or chemical operations.  As the intrinsically safe version holds the highest FM certification for all groups (C1D1), it can be readily usable in lower rated areas.
