mPulse® 220 kHz for Ultrasonic Non-Contact Proximity Sensing and Control

The MassaSonic® mPulse® Model M-5000/220 Sensor is a full featured, short range, wired sensor with multiple outputs. It has high accuracy and a high measurement speed.

Modern ultrasonic and microprocessor technology is used by the mPulse® Sensor  to transmit precision non-contact distance measurement for industrial process control and factory automation. The mPulse Sensor is recognized for its ability to be set up without the need for a target, flexibility in user-controlled outputs, genuinely user-friendly software, and excellent ease of operation.

The mPulse® Sensor transmits narrow beam sound pulses at a user-selected rate (or it can be externally triggered), processes return echoes, and produces several outputs dependent on the position of the target. These sensors operate from 12 to 28 V DC and provide non-contact measurement over a nominal target range of 4″ (100 mm) to 40" (1 m).

Outputs include a 0 to 20 mA or 4 to 20 mA DC analog current loop, echo status by both an Echo Status Output switch and an LED indicator, and two independent set-point switches. The outputs and parameters of the system are completely user programmable through an RS-485 data link, eliminating tampering and sealing problems related to adjustment potentiometers or push-buttons.

A few extra programmable features comprise: set-point hysteresis, analog output slope, loss-of-echo time-out, averaging of multiple target distance measurements, and sampling rate.

Massa’s extremely user-friendly software works with a PC working under Windows® 10, 8, 7, 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP operating systems. The mPulse® Sensor uses USB/RS-485 or RS-232/RS-485 converters to connect to a PC.

The RS-485 data link permits up to 32 sensors to be on the same multi-drop communications network. For those who prefer to not use a PC, it is possible to program the sensors at the factory to the customer’s accurate specifications for true “plug and play” operation.

Other features of the mPulse® Sensor include protection from short circuits, over-voltage and reverse polarity, diagnostic and monitoring outputs, operation from -20°C to 65°C with built-in temperature compensation, and industry standard 30 mm diameter CPVC housing.
