Lockheed Martin Achieves Milestone in Production of Night Vision Sensor System

Lockheed Martin recently delivered the 1,000th Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system to the U.S. Army. Also called the Arrowhead, the solution is a targeting and piloting system.

The system offers Apache pilots enhanced long-range, electro-optical engagement and pilot security features at any time of the day or night and in all kinds of weather conditions. Its sophisticated forward-looking infrared sensors facilitate improved image resolution, ensuring standoff range and targeting.  It reduces maintenance thus proving to be very cost- effective.

The company received the first contract from the US Army for its M-TADS/PNVS in 2003 and the first delivery was made to Army Apache in 2005.  The 250th system was handed over to the army in 2007 with the 500th delivery being made in 2008.  More than 20 systems were being delivered each month. The company will continue to provide solutions to the army for use within the country as well as on international missions till 2014. While electronic assembly of the system will take place at the company’s utility in Ocala, Florida, the final assembly will happen at the Lockheed plant in Orlando.
