TDSL, as a part of EdgeX Foundry, will focus on the advancement of its edge computing technology for compatibility with the EdgeX system and add to unify the IoT marketplace.

To build a common open framework for Iot edge computing, a vendor-neutral open source project such as the EdgeX Foundry is chosen. Two attractive features at the heart of the project are an interoperability framework hosted within a complete hardware- and OS that has an agnostic reference software platform. These features allow an ecosystem of plug-and-play components that unifies the marketplace and speeds up the deployment of IoT solutions.

By offering its IoT architecture SPINEX, TDSL helps customers to improve business efficiency as well as to quickly step into digital transformation. SPINIX was developed keeping in mind Toshiba Group’s widespread industrial knowledge and expertise built up across various sectors from semiconductor to industrial and social infrastructure systems, comprising of three main features: digital twin, edge computing, and RECAIUS (media intelligence).

As Toshiba Group has its demand in transforming huge amount of information produced at its worksites into actionable intelligence right at the edge, the company perceives the essential part of edge computing and has been making efforts to develop and enhance the technology. Toshiba, being a user as well as a solution provider of IoT edge computing, is aware of the common challenge across the board of lacking an interoperable framework or software platform EdgeX Foundry is developing. At first, TDSL will enable the use of its existing edge computing solutions to be similar with the EdgeX framework, and then help advance the simplification and standardization of industrial IoT solutions utilizing its domain knowledge and practical experience obtained from actual customer use cases.

As IoT continues to advance, widespread fragmentation and the lack of a common IoT solution framework become a critical issue. Together with other EdgeX Foundry members, Toshiba looks forward to contributing our practical know how accumulated as an IoT edge computing user and solution provider to help fulfill a global ecosystem that can drive interoperability and digital transformation.

Shigeyoshi Shimotsuji, Director and Vice President, Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation

EdgeX Foundry leverages the open and interoperable software platform to accelerate deployment of IoT solutions for edge computing and the industrial internet of things. Toshiba’s wide range of business domains, from consumer products to civil infrastructure brings relevant real world expertise to the EdgeX project. We are excited that Toshiba will share their knowledge and experience with EdgeX Foundry so that we can build a strong ecosystem that can quickly and securely deliver interoperability between a myriad of IoT devices, applications and services.
