Teledyne Technologies and TowerJazz Announce the Launch of Teledyne e2v’s Emerald™ 67M Image Sensor

Teledyne e2v, a Teledyne Technologies company and global pioneer in imaging solutions, and TowerJazz, the global specialty foundry leader, announced the availability of Teledyne e2v’s Emerald 67M image sensor, developed for ultra-high resolution electronics inspection, microscopy, and high-end surveillance.

The sensor is a part of Teledyne e2v’s Emerald family and incorporates the world’s smallest 2.5-µm low-noise global shutter pixel from TowerJazz, on TowerJazz’s 65-nm platform, in its Uozu, 300-mm Japanese manufacturing facility. The pixel is incorporated with an inimitable light pipe technology, providing an excellent angular response, over 80 dB shutter efficiency, considerably small size, and very low noise (one electron). This distinctive pixel architecture offers the most advanced performance that allows increased manufacturing yields, by detecting minor flaws.

The Emerald family of sensors, exclusively made by TowerJazz, provides users with an exceptional set of features and are all appropriate for high-speed interface systems such as CoaXPress, 10GigE, Camera Link HS, and Camera Link. Unique features comprise of HDR modes with up to 120 dB dynamic range and also a unique Region of Interest (ROI) mode, which enables multiple ROI to be acquired under diverse exposure conditions, thereby further enhancing the dynamic range of an image.

Emerald 67M is square shaped and has 8k resolution for each side, allowing 95% use of the image area for the next generation of display manufacturing, gen 10.5. The ultra-high resolution improves vision system movements in huge product inspection, decreasing system complexity, and eliminating instabilities. It comes in two different speed grades (high speed, 30fps and ultra-high speed, 60fps).

The Emerald 67M is the first sensor of its kind and is enjoying strong interest in inspection applications due to its ultra-high resolution and fast speed. It also shares many of the smart features within other Emerald sensors making it easier to deploy within vision systems. The great technology innovation and support from TowerJazz allowed us to bring to market this best-in-class solution, customized to product and application needs.
