The National Physical Laboratory at UK in association with a group of researchers across the globe, have explained that when graphene is blended with specific polymers, the electrical characteristics of graphene can be regulated appropriately using light and thus can be widely used in novel optoelectronic systems.
The polymers retain light and the graphene device holds its reformed characteristics till the memory is expunged by heating.
These light-reformed graphene chips have been utilized for the high-precision trials at NPL for evaluating the quantum of electrical resistance. Such polymers can be deployed efficiently in future, for converting the data from the environment and can be used for studying the effect on graphene. This effect can be utilized for advancing secure sensors for detecting poisonous gases,smoke, or any targeted molecule.
Graphene does not possess volume it has only surface and its whole assembly is exposed to its surroundings, and is responsive to any molecule in contact with it. This feature makes it ideal for the manufacture of super-sensors for identifying unique molecules of poisonous gases. The polymers enable the graphene to react to particular molecules and avoid all other molecules simultaneously, shielding it from pollution.
