STMicroelectronics, a semiconductor solutions provider, has released a new range of geo-magnetic modules to lower operating power consumption and to improve energy-efficiency at the chip and the system level. The company supplies Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) for portable and consumer applications.
The LSM303DLM geo-magnetic module, recently added to ST's MEMS family of products, is based on micromachining technology procedure. The proprietary micromachining technology has been implemented in over one billion motion sensors. The three-axis, high-resolution sensing function in the device enables it to be used for location-based and navigation services in mobile consumer applications. The device consumes low power and senses magnetic and linear motions.
The energy-efficient device can be used for determining direction finding, pedestrian dead reckoning and map/display orientation. The motion and magnetic sensing of the device allows consumers to use their mobile phones as an electronic compass.
The geo-magnetic module offers advanced embedded features along with high-precision sensing. The LSM303DLM module offers precise output across all electronic devices. The device offers exceptional stability over temperature and time and shows a 30% rise in magnetic sensing resolution when compared to the LSM303DLH device.
