New High Performance Geomagnetic Sensor from PNI

PNI Sensor (PNI), a leader in magnetic sensing and sensor fusion technologies, today introduced the RM3100™, the highest-performance geomagnetic sensor in its class.

Leveraging its extensive experience in geomagnetic sensing for mission-critical applications, PNI's RM3100 delivers industrial-grade precision and reliability for applications requiring a high degree of orientation accuracy. Providing accurate measurement of signals that are less than 10 nT -- which is less than 0.1% of Earth's magnetic field -- the RM3100 is ideal for applications that require absolute heading or orientation data, including augmented reality and location tracking.

The RM3100 delivers more than 20x higher performance than existing micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) or Hall Effect sensors.

"As consumer electronic devices rely increasingly on sensors, OEMs are demanding higher performance -- and that is PNI's sweet spot," said Becky Oh, president and CEO, PNI Sensor. "Our RM3100 introduces a level of performance previously available only for advanced industrial applications such as terrestrial and oceanographic mapping, SONAR targeting, and advanced robotics. Customers of the RM3100 get the same precision for their consumer devices."

About the RM3100
The RM3100 is the latest addition to PNI's portfolio of geomagnetic sensors. Including three of PNI's newest magneto-inductive sensor coils as well as its new ASIC drive circuitry, the RM3100 delivers improvements in gain, resolution and power consumption with the added flexibility of both SPI and I2C interfaces. It relies on PNI's proprietary technology to provide over 23 times better resolution and 27 times less noise than commonly used Hall Effect magnetic sensors. These are critical attributes for accurate absolute orientation in a wide variety of applications using sensor data.
