General Dynamics’ Business Unit Acquires Sensor Manufacturer Kylmar

The business unit of General Dynamics, General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd, acquired Kylmar (KMC) Ltd., a sensor and optical surveillance company that specializes in products suitable for security and military applications. Although the value of the cash transactions remain undisclosed, the cash transaction is slated to be accretive to 2011 earnings of General Dynamics.

Under the terms of the contract, KMC, as a part of the company, will enhance General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited’s surveillance, intelligence, reconnaissance, and targeting capabilities extended to the security, defense, and resilience markets.

The Andover, Hampshire-based Kylmar houses a staff on 50 employees, providing electro-optic systems and equipment to Special Forces as well as the UK military intelligence to deal with counter-terrorism applications for almost 20 years. Since inception, Kylmar has specialized in designing and manufacturing electro-optical systems that are used under harsh environments for long periods.

According to president and managing director of General Dynamics UK, Dr Sandy Wilson, Kylmar’s products and optronics expertise are ideal for the current defense and security requirements. Widely deployed in IED detection, border/perimeter security, and force protection applications, the optronics expertise will strengthen General Dynamics UK's C4ISTAR network.
