Raytheon BBN Technologies' Boomerang to Provide Shooter Detection Capabilities at Multiple Utility Sites

Raytheon BBN Technologies' Boomerang, originally developed for the U.S. Army, will provide shooter detection capabilities at multiple utility sites in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.

Boomerang is the most widely fielded gunshot detection system in the world, with more than 10,000 systems deployed globally. Raytheon BBN Technologies is making the Boomerang shooter detection system available to the utility industry through an exclusive sales and distribution partnership with LJC Consulting, Inc., doing business as Mil-Com Security Solutions.

"Boomerang has been saving lives in combat operations since 2003," said Ed Campbell, president of Raytheon BBN Technologies. "Boomerang is a unique, proven capability that will now help protect our nation's critical power infrastructure against gunfire incidents."

The initial order is for 110 systems under a rapid fielding initiative. Raytheon BBN Technologies is working with utility companies across the U.S. to install similar critical infrastructure protection solutions using Boomerang, which employs passive acoustic detection and computer-based signal processing to pinpoint small arms fire and immediately report the precise shooter location to authorities.

"The utility industry is selecting Raytheon's Boomerang system because of its reliability, low total cost of ownership, and ease of integration with other security systems," said Christian Connors, president of LJC Consulting.
