L-3 Launches the Sonoma 2511X Multi-Spectral Imaging System

L-3 Sonoma EO announced today the production launch of the Sonoma 2511X, a multi-spectral imaging system that delivers unprecedented image quality at range. This new and improved system is the larger variant of the Sonoma 2111X turret, with increased geolocation capability and six simultaneous video bands.

The Sonoma 2511X integrates the latest multi-spectral imaging technology through a shared, large optical aperture. With this aperture, the focal lengths of all the 2511X’s imaging sensors are increased by 50 percent, providing vastly greater range. In addition, the system’s geolocation and pointing capabilities are three times better than those of other comparable systems on the market. Combined, these advancements deliver optical clarity and performance previously available only in large reconnaissance pods.

“The Sonoma 2511X is the next logical step in L-3’s long-standoff portfolio based on our X-MAST™ stabilization and Shared Aperture System (SAS™) technologies,” said Dominic Houlemard, director of advanced programs at L-3 Sonoma EO. “We are continuing to invest in improved stabilization and optical performance to provide mission-optimized solutions for our customers’ challenging ISR requirements.”

L-3’s Sonoma 2511X is built on the patented and proven X-MAST stabilization platform, an integrated system that consistently delivers world-class, jitter-free images. The integrated SAS technology has been in production for over a decade, providing multi-spectral solutions for a variety of long-standoff mission sets. Superior focal lengths support range-to-target standoffs that demand equivalent performance in geolocation, and a high-performance Inertial Navigation System reduces pointing errors by 70 percent.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 48,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in aerospace systems and national security solutions. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of communication and electronic systems and products used on military and commercial platforms. The company reported 2013 sales of $12.6 billion.
