In this interview, Mel Gerst, Portfolio Manager from Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection, talks to AZoSensors about the portfolio of wireless solutions they offer that are suitable for a wide range of applications.

Please could you introduce our readers to Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection’s new gas and flame division?

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection is a business unit within Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection's Personal Safety Division with a focus on delivering innovative fixed gas and flame detection and portable gas detection products and system solutions.

The business unit is comprised of former Scott Safety gas detection businesses which include the strong legacy brands of Oldham, Detcon, Simtronics and GMI companies.

Teledyne Gas & Flame offers a wide breadth of detection products and features a variety of core sensing technologies. We offer market leading solutions for environmentally challenging environments and a strong portfolio of wireless solutions suitable for a wide range of applications. Our application engineering group has the ability to design and customize solutions to meet the most challenging needs of our customers.

What solutions will Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection be able to deliver that your individual legacy companies could not?

Now As-One with Teledyne, we have the ability to leverage the proven strong science and technology infrastructure and collaborate on new innovative products and solutions.

The combined company can now deliver gas and flame products to suit a wider array of customer gas and flame needs, and integrated customer solutions using the best technology from each of the legacy companies.

We also an integral part of Teledyne’s global initiatives to support multiple industrial applications including confined space with a full range of personal safety devices.

How will being part of Teledyne impact the service you can provide? Will the new Gas & Flame Detection division be integrated with Teledyne as a whole?  

The Gas & Flame business unit is operating as a global business and is a part of Teledyne’s Personal Safety Division. The PSD sales team is selling our portable gas detectors as part of their basket. A dedicated fixed gas and flame global sales team remains intact to continue to effectively support the unique nature and sales cycle of the fixed gas and flame detection business.

What different industries do Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection work with? Which industries do you think will benefit most from this new division?

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection works with many industries, with concentration on:  petrochemical, oil and gas, power, gas utilities, beverage, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and wastewater.

Certain applications and markets such as confined space, gas utility and personal protection equipment will benefit greatly with the ability to offer portable gas detection solutions as a part of the Teledyne offering.    

Do Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection provide support and guidance for your customer’s difficult applications?  

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection has an application engineering group that can develop custom solutions for customer's applications, and we have a global technical service group that is available to support our customers everyday needs.

How do Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection, and Teledyne as a whole, work with the oil and gas industry? What products are designed specifically to improve safety in this field?

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection has a heavy involvement in the oil and gas industries around the globe, with service centers in the U.S., the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

Our key products for the oil and gas industry include: GD10P Bench IR point Gas Detector, GD1 H2S Gas Open Path, CXT Wireless Gas Detectors, 700 Series and PS200 Portable Gas Detector, just to name a few.

Teledyne offers products specifically designed for the oil and gas industry which can be installed in very harsh environments, support very fast response and offer the durability and reliability required for these markets.

What software does Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection provide to complement its gas detectors? What sets this apart from your competitors?

Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection supports our products with software and intuitive user interfaces that are designed to make the products easy to use and maintain.

We offer a range of connectivity options and communication protocols, providing flexibility in installation and options for interfacing with other equipment.

How are Teledyne going to be introducing their new division to the industry at OTC?

We will be publically unveiling our new brand, Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection, at this year’s OTC show with a great new look and brand imagery.
