LuminOx Optical Oxygen Sensors: Low Cost, Low Power and Long Life

Compared to other oxygen sensors, the LuminOx gaseous optical oxygen sensor offers cost-efficiency, low power, and long life. The LuminOx series of factory calibrated oxygen sensors are developed and manufactured by SST. The LuminOx series are designed to measure ambient oxygen levels using the principle of fluorescence quenching by oxygen.

The patented technology allows SST to build a sensor that offers low power operation, while providing an extended lifetime compared to electrochemical and galvanic sensors.

The LuminOx oxygen sensor is internally temperature compensated, which means the customer does not have to consider this in their design. It also communicates instantly to the customer’s UART so there is no need for any signal conditioning circuitry.

LuminOx is a totally solid state sensor and does not have any lead or liquid electrolytes. It is therefore 100% RoHS compliant. It also has almost no cross sensitivity, allowing it to be used in applications where other technologies are undependable because of the particular mix of gases present.

LuminOx measures the partial pressure of oxygen (ppO2) which, together with the internal sensor temperature is communicated serially to the host microcontroller. The LuminOx is also offered with an internal barometric pressure sensor, which allows oxygen concentration (%O2) to be calculated and conveyed, along with temperature, ppO2, and barometric pressure.
