Compact and Tough Ultrasonic Sensors for General Purpose Applications

Senix offers compact and rugged ultrasonic sensors called “ToughSonic.” The flagship products come with heavy-duty electronics epoxy accommodated into type 316 stainless steel housings. They are also provided with ruggedized piezoelectric transducers and permanently fixed cables.

Senix’s ToughSonic® sensors are used on remote monitoring stations from the Alaskan oil fields to Australian outback. They are deployed on farm equipment and heavy construction, and in some of the most aggressive factory settings. When a standard sensor does not work out, users will need the ToughSonic® ultrasonic sensor.

Smart Communications

Serial data communications are included in all the sensors to link with the SenixVIEW setup software or users’ equipment. Users can select the RS-485 or RS-232 model, with the communications format given below:

  • Baud rates from 9600 (default) to 115200 bps
  • A host of other features are available which can be adjusted using SenixVIEW software
  • ASCII streaming protocols or selectable Modbus (default)

Senix recommends the RS-485 Serial Data Interface, unless users are connecting to an RS-232 device. The advantages of RS-485 over RS-232 are given below:

  • Enables longer cable lengths at higher baud rates
  • Improved noise immunity in industrial settings
  • Multi-sensor Modbus-addressable RS-485 networks
  • Bottom line: High value and more capability

Energy is preserved in battery-powered applications because the ToughSonic® sensors power-on and are ready to measure within a second. For users who need only a serial data interface, all models are supplied without the extra analog and switch outputs at reduced power consumption and cost. Instead of the regular 6- or 9-wire cable, users can utilize a 4-wire dual twisted pair (plus drain) data cable.

Ultimate Flexibility

All sensor outputs are SenixVIEW configurable by users.

  • All switches and analogs have response settings for loss of target echo (delay and state), power-on initialization, and SYNC lost
  • Switches have time delays (on, off, and no target) as well as hysteresis and window modes
  • Analogs can be calibrated between any two distances, no-target time delay, adjustable analog limits, and negative or positive slope

Smart Teach Button

While sensors are available with a default setup, several features can be adjusted through the rear push-button (except the ToughSonic® 50 model). In addition, the default setup can be reset with the help of the push-button, or alternatively, the button can be disabled.

The SenixVIEW software enables easier and more powerful adjustments.
