The precise wind sensor calculates wind speed and direction using the run-time differential approach. It provides output for instantaneous values, vector and scalar means, the maximum gust of wind and wind direction, the maximum/minimum values and the virtual temperature.
The Lufft Ventus can output data through serial or analog interfaces, making it compatible with PLC systems and widely available hydrometeorological dataloggers. Even in the coldest temperatures, an automatic heater guarantees steady operation.

- Parameters calculated: Wind speed, virtual temperature, wind direction, barometric pressure
- Measurement technology: Ultrasonic
- Product highlights: Measurement that requires no maintenance and is appropriate for harsh environmental conditions, operates without ice or vibration and has compatible interfaces
- Interface: SDI-12, RS-485, numerous RS 485 protocols, analog output
Advantages
- Seawater and vibration resistance that is useful in coastal areas
- An inbuilt heater that can be activated in the event of a frost threat ensures ice-free operation down to -40 °C
- Maintenance-free operation — There are no moving parts that can wear out, and recalibration is not necessary, thanks to the ultrasonic measurement technique
- Accomplished testing and certification under challenging circumstances (air humidity, temperature, electromagnetic compatibility, salt spray, vibration, and icing)
- Appropriate for all climate zones and for solar-powered automatic meteorological stations
- OTT-dataloggers, widely available HydroMet dataloggers and PLS systems are compatible with built-in data pre-processing, global interfaces, and configurable output protocols
Examples of Use
The sturdy, maintenance-free wind sensor is intended for use in all climate zones in commercial meteorological applications. Even in harsh environmental circumstances, it produces reliable data.
Examples
- Synoptical involuntary weather stations of meteorological services
- Hydro-meteorological stations
- Mountain weather stations for avalanches and flood warning
- Weather stations at airports, onboard ships, and marinas
- Wind turbine control
- Weather surveillance for road and traffic control systems
