The Optoelectronics Business Unit of TT Electronics has developed a self-calibration system for the OPB350 Series of non-contact optoelectronic fluid sensors.
The self-calibration system will aid in maintaining the accuracy of the sensors over its period of usage. This feature enables the sensor to be used in a number of applications such as transfusion/infusion systems, urine and blood plasma analysis, delivery of IV fluids in the medical field, and also for delivering clear or colored fluids, lubricating oils and toners.
The sensor has an automatic calibration function that has the ability to compensate for environmental, system and manufacturing variances. The sensors can fit applications that use clear type tubing with diameters of 4.8, 6.3, 1.6 and 3.2 mm. They can operate between -40oC and +85oC.
The OCB350 Series fluid sensor determines the fluid presence in a tube using an infrared LED / phototransistor pair. It can also detect the presence of any air bubbles in the flowing fluid. The sensor, based on the difference in refractive properties, varies the output current to signal the presence / absence of fluid.
The auto-calibration function narrows the initial output state of the device and compensates for degradation of LED / phototransistor performance, variations in system power, variations in ambient temperature, and variations in ambient light.
