e2v's Line Scan Camera and Imaging Sensors Use TowerJazz CMOS Image Sensor Technology

TowerJazz, a CMOS and digital CMOS process technology developer, has announced the increased production of the ELiiXA+ high speed multi-line scan camera and the Ruby low light CMOS imaging sensors developed by e2v.

The imaging products integrate the state-of-the-art CMOS Image Sensor technology developed by TowerJazz.

The Vice President of TowezJazz Specialty Business Unit, Dr. Avi Strum explained that the key to developing high performing sensors is the R&D collaboration between the two companies.

e2v offers sensor solutions for industrial cameras and machine vision with advanced CMOS design to ensure high performance with reduced illumination cost. The high performance CIS technology in combination with the innovative solutions offered by e2v have resulted in advanced System-on-Chip development and cameras offering embedded features for complex imaging applications. Ideal for industrial image sensor applications, the TowerJazz CIS technology offers high sensitivity and high speed shutter sensors with reduced noise and higher signal-to-noise ratio.

Introduced in 2011, e2v’s ELiiXA+ is ideal for flat panel display inspection, solar cell inspection, high resolution document scanning, PCB inspection, postal / parcel sorting, print inspection and glass inspection. The RoHs compliant line scan camera features CoaXPress or CameraLink interface and offers a high throughput. The Ruby family of both B&W and colour low-light CMOS sensors enables low-light imaging and reduces illumination costs. Ideally suited for intelligent traffic systems and machine vision cameras, its applications also include biometrics, surveillance cameras, defense, barcode reading and smart cameras.

A market research on image sensors by Yole Development indicates that by 2015, the machine vision market will reach $88 million.

The CIS-enabled technologies were showcased at the Image Sensors Conference held in London from 20 to 22 March, 2012.
