iTrans 2: A Flexible Gas Detector

Gas detection is a critical field that requires maximum flexibility, superior performance, and minimal installation costs. With the addition of modern expectations, including smart features and the ability to detect explosive, toxic, or asphyxiant gases, the list of potential solutions becomes much narrower. One prominent choice, however, is the iTrans 2 fixed gas detector by Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection.

The iTrans 2 boasts smart sensor capabilities supporting an intelligent electronics platform. It offers one or two points of detection from a single head, allowing for flexibility, with readings displayed on the split-screen LED display. Gas sensors can be mounted directly to the transmitter or remotely.

For detecting explosive and toxic gases or oxygen, the iTrans 2 uses infrared, catalytic bead, or electrochemical sensors. In addition to the LEL (lower explosive limit) sensor range, the iTrans 2 can be used in combination with a 0-100% volume methane infrared sensor for bio-gas applications and CO2 infrared sensors ranging from 0.5% to 100% volume.

All of Teledyne’s sensors are pre-calibrated with smart technology to ensure automatic recognition and seamless data transfer. Once calibrated, they display sensor life data.

Installation is simplified with cable-saving and time-saving options, making the product suitable for various applications. The iTrans 2 supports common 3-wire (4-20 mA) and 4-wire (digital ModBus) configurations, utilizing the gas detector’s features and options with all iTrans 2 sensors.

The iTrans 2 provides analog 4-20 mA and digital RS-485 Modbus outputs, with optional HART communication for remote diagnostics, commissioning, and calibration. A magnetic wand allows full transmitter configuration and calibration without opening the explosion-proof housing.

Standard housing is epoxy-coated aluminum, with an optional 316 stainless steel version for corrosive environments. Operating between -40 °C to +75 °C, it suits heavy industry, smaller systems, boiler rooms, and various sectors, including oil and gas, utilities, and food production. Certifications include CSA, ATEX, IECEx, INMETRO, CCC, and China Ex.

The microprocessor-controlled transmitters are available in various versions, including plug-and-play, stand-alone operation, or multi-point system configuration. The monitor can also be operated stand-alone thanks to the optional on-board relays that can activate alarms, horns, or fans. It can also shut down systems without the need for return wiring to a central control panel.

Teledyne’s iTrans 2 is one of the best tools on the market, offering unparalleled versatility and functionality that is ideal for any application or user requirement.
