It is far-field audio applications like these that are causing microphone arrays to be so popular, but there is an issue: Microphone arrays need microphones that are matched carefully in terms of sensitivity and phase.

Once capacitive MEMS microphones leave the factory floor, they are prone to “drift,” so their performance is unstable.
