Trimble Launches a New Digital Sensor System

Trimble unveiled the Trimble DSS WideAngle, a novel digital sensor system, at the INTERGEO 2010, the biggest global conference on land management, geoinformatics and geodesy, to be utilized in the direct geo-referenced aerial imaging system. It is designed to produce mapping solutions for vertical and colour orthophoto applications.

This system blends minimal operation costs, with superb stereo image geometry, and a wide coverage area, which is a boon for aerial mapping firms. Its sixty mega-pixel camera, with a medium format provides wide strips of clear digital colour, stereo images which are well suited for irregular, linear and tiny mapping area projects. Its lens options help in achieving extraordinary base-to-height ratio and thus implements a systematic DEM generation (digital elevation model) and also contour mapping.

According to Adam Evans, Trimble’s project manager, the Trimble DSS WideAngle is a sophisticated, low cost solution for aerial mapping, with direct georeferencing technology as a fringe benefit, minimizing the necessity for a costly and time-gobbling ground control system.

This system can also be used on single-engine aircrafts and helicopters, with its easy integration and pilot-only features. It includes a 35mm and 50mm lens which could be interchanged by the user, a total post-mission processing software, a sixty mega-pixel metric camera, a rugged pressured drive and data logger, POST Track flight management system along with the embedded POS AV direct georeferencing system.

The Trimble DSS WideAngle goes well with the Trimble developed software, INPHO photogrammetric software. On- site installation training and a global customer support service, with an annual maintenance and warranty contract is offered to its customers, and this product is available via Trimble’s aerial mapping distribution channel.
