A Tier 1 manufacturer, the name of which has been maintained anonymous, a producer of mobile phones has approved Fingerprint Cards (FPC), a developer of biometric components and technologies as a distributor of sensors.
Both the companies have entered into a master purchase agreement (MPA) for supply of sensors from FPC to the Tier 1 manufacturer. With this MPA, the Tier 1 manufacturer integrates a new swipe sensor of FPC in its smartphone platform. This integration of the swipe sensor in mobile phones results in a highly secure and convenient product that can be used in various applications such as PIN-code substitution, secure mobile payments, personal information security, user’s identity determination and highly flexible screen lock applications.
Johan Carlström, FPC’s Chief Executive Officer, stated that the company is proud and delighted about the MPA agreement with the Tier 1 manufacturer and deployment of the company’s swipe sensor in Tier 1’s mobile platforms. Carlström added that the MPA signed between the companies includes future supply of FPC’s systems, software and hardware. Carlström said that as of now the exact model to which the FPC’s sensors will be deployed has not yet been selected, but it will be finalized within the first six months of the year 2012.
The FPC’s model FPC1080A is a highly power efficient sensor, which is manufactured for use in smartphone applications. This FPC1080A sensor, developed using the FPC’s patented scanning technology, produces high quality 3D images with resolution of about 508 dpi. The sensor features a smart image management system and separate hardware support integrates for navigation, which makes it to be employed in user interface control. With these features, this FPC1080A sensor can be suitably applied in smartphones, remote controls, USB key and tablets.
