Swing Fire Detection System from Siemens Features Wireless Mesh Technology

The Siemens Building Technologies Division has introduced the swing fire detection system that provides superior flexibility and reliability. Swing integrates patented advanced signal analysis (ASA) technology with a failure-proof wireless network to enable optimal fire detection. The system can be used in places where it is impossible or undesirable to wire-in fire detectors.

The swing system is designed with mesh technology that enables maximization of communication redundancy thus matching the consistency and security of a cable-based solution. Each wireless unit communicates with adjacent units implying that there are at least two redundant paths present at any particular point of time for transmission of information. In order to increase reliability further, every device is provided with two frequency bands having multiple channels. In case there is any discrepancy, the network corrects itself by trying to change frequency bands or change channels or forward data through an adjacent unit. Hence it is ensured that the gateway always receives all available information and finally the control panel. With the help of a single gateway, it is possible to install a network in a radius of up to 60 m and in as many as five floors.

The Swing fire detection network can be easily installed and can be moved while functioning. Furthermore, the individual detector units can be accessed remotely or from the fire control panel.

Each fire detector is equipped with two heat and two optical sensors. It is possible to configure the detector for specific environmental conditions. The detector signals are interpreted in real time and the parameter sets are adapted dynamically. The Swing fire detectors are made immune to steam, welding fumes, steam or dust which consistently prevents expensive false alarms. A genuine alarm guarantee is offered by Building Technologies, which includes financial damage compensation in case the alarm gets triggered accidentally.

Ideal applications include museums and historic buildings and museums, variable-use temporary installations and industrial buildings in exhibitions and trade shows. Wireless technology is also suitable for offices or hotel rooms where small windows exist for maintenance and installation.
