New 6 Degrees of Freedom IMU On The Market

Bosch Sensortec today announced the smallest 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) IMU on the market.

Integrating a triaxial accelerometer and triaxial gyroscope, the new BMI055 is just 3mm x 4.5mm. It supports very low compound current consumption (with the accelerometer and gyro operating at full speed data rates): just 5mA for the gyro and 200 µA for the accelerometer.

Like all of Bosch Sensortec’s MEMS inertial sensors, the BMI055 is fully designed in-house, and the MEMS die are manufactured at the Bosch fab in Reutlingen, Germany—which is the world’s biggest MEMS fab.

The product is sampling now, with mass production in Q3 2012.
