Sensor-Integrated Intelli Chair Prevents Back-ache

Northwestern Germany-based Bielefeld University scientist Risto Koiva along with his co-researchers developed the Intelli Chair by exploiting the sonification process ( utilization of noise relay data), for preventing back pain by sitting in a chair in the same position for a longer duration.

Risto Koiva explained that the novel Intelli Chair is equipped with four touch-perspective sensing units that are integrated in the chair seat and four another set of sensors are located behind the chair for tracking the position in which the person is sitting in the chair. He added that the information monitored by these sensors is relayed to a computer system by means of a Bluetooth module.

The chair will produce a warning alarm when it identifies that the user is sitting in an improper position or has seated for a prolonged duration so that the user can change his/her position accordingly to avoid back pain.

Thomas Hermann, a Physicist and computer scientist stated that the innovative chair can be deployed mainly in a home office or in any other places on requirement.
