Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit by Avnet Electronics Marketing

Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc., today announced the Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit for prototyping next-generation motor control applications. Combining the Xilinx® Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC ARM® dual-core Cortex™-A9 + 28 nm programmable logic with the latest generation Analog Devices high-precision data converters and digital isolation, this kit enables high-performance motor control and dual Gigabit Ethernet industrial networking connectivity.

The Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit is supported by Model-Based Design using Simulink®, Embedded Coder®, and HDL Coder™ from MathWorks, allowing engineers to use an integrated hardware/software workflow to prototype on hardware directly from Simulink and deploy into production using the Xilinx Vivado® Design Suite. A pre-built Zynq reference design of Field Oriented Control features Analog Devices Ubuntu Linux framework to provide an ideal infrastructure for designers to quickly build their own custom control algorithms.

The kit, available now at $995, is ideal for motor control applications targeting the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC in the industrial and medical markets, including integrated applications such as surgical assist robotics, video surveillance and machine vision, vending machines, as well as manufacturing, assembly and automation.

“Motor control applications are pervasive in the electronics landscape. Virtually every industrial or integrated application designed today contains some form of motor that requires software or firmware controls,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “In the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit, we have integrated state-of-the-art software with production-grade versions of the chips and components that designers will use for their final applications, so that they can have the highest accuracy available when developing their motor control systems.”

“The Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit leverages the power and flexibility of the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC and the Vivado Design Suite to make an easy-to-use reference design kit so that designers can jumpstart their high-performance motor and motion control applications,” said Christoph Fritsch, director of industrial, scientific and medical market segments for Xilinx. “Due to the flexibility this platform provides, it can be used across a wide variety of markets and applications.”

“The Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC/Analog Devices Intelligent Drives Kit features Analog Devices’ state-of-the-art precision data converters and digital isolation technology. The combination of ADI data converters with Xilinx FPGA platforms allows engineers to more easily create unique, simplified motor control design solutions,” said Dave Babicz, director, Global Alliances, Analog Devices. “With our production-grade reference design kit, designers know they can rapidly prototype using the same technology they will use in their end applications.”

The kit includes:

  • Avnet ZedBoard 7020 baseboard
  • Xilinx Vivado Design Edition voucher
  • Analog Devices AD-FMCMOTCON1-EBZ Module
  • 8 GB SD card programmed with application
  • Zynq reference design of Field Oriented Control featuring Analog Devices Ubuntu Linux
  • Linux drivers, applications software, HDL source, reference designs, schematics and Gerbers
  • MathWorks Motor Control Design Package (optional)
  • Brushless DC motor: 24V, 4000 RPM, Hall Sensors and 1250 CPR indexed encoder
  • Analog Devices Dynamometer (optional)

The base kit may be ordered with Analog Devices Dynamometer, enabling digital control of an active load to test Zynq motor control performance. The fixture includes a dedicated port for connection to the Analog Discovery™ USB oscilloscope (not included) for automated control and monitoring of the load directly from Simulink. The base kit, along with the additional dynamometer, is available at $1695. Furthermore, a Motor Control Design Package from MathWorks may be added to deliver a complete turnkey solution for motor control algorithm development, including C and HDL code generation and target support for the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC.
