BSc Crime Scene and Forensic Investigations and Forensic Science, MSc Crime and Forensic Science

After completing her Bachelors in Crime Scene and Forensic Investigations and Forensic Science, Eva continued her studies and completed her Masters in Crime and Forensic Science at University College London in October 2019.

During her undergraduate degree, Eva completed several mock-crime scene investigations, where she focused her understanding around evidence preservation, recording, collection, and packaging. Practicing work of a scenes of crime officer ensured she understood how to identify evidence on a crime scene and the responsibility of seizing and storage of forensic evidence. Her final year of her undergrad focused on assessment and analyzing physical exhibits to collect trace evidence in a Forensic laboratory, such as hair, fibers, blood, sexual fluids and saliva. This undergrad year allowed her to understand the second stage of an investigation after a SOCO collects and stores the evidence, which is analyzing the exhibit for trace evidence.

Eva’s postgraduate degree truly placed many things in perspective for her, including her preference of career path within Forensics. This Master’s degree completed the final stage in an investigation, which is understanding and interpreting forensic evidence to present findings in a courtroom. A particular module which influenced her future career outlook was the Foundation of Security and Crime Science given by Richard Wortley. Her career path switched to Crime Science: a  multi-disciplinary approach in the application of knowledge and disciplines to develop practical and ethical ways to reduce crime. Her final dissertation focused on how the environment can influence crime rates using police intelligence data from New York City.

In Summer 2020, Eva got her foot in the door as a Forensic Assistant. Here she gained plenty of knowledge on how internal and external departments communicated and relied on each other to complete work under different constraints. At the start of 2022, after completing her probation period, Eva got promoted within 4 months to her prefered career path as a Crime Analyst.

At the beginning of 2022, Eva also decided to continue her career development journey and joined the AzoNetwork Life Sciences as a Science Writer in Forensics, Crime, Intelligence, and more. In addition, Eva also runs a Social Media Platform @forensicallyme on Instagram, where she helps graduates get their foot in the Forensic door.

For some background, Eva was born and raised on a small island in the Dutch Caribbean called Aruba. She moved from a young age alone from Aruba to Europe to pursue her career in Crime and Forensics, living in the Netherlands, Birmingham and now in London. Eva is extremely ambitious in her career and personal life and is excited to see where her future in Forensics will take her.
