New Low-Capacity Multi-Axis Sensor Enhances Robotic Precision and Advances Testing Capabilities

To help engineers meet the demands of modern machine automation and test stands - such as wind channels or model testing - leading measurement specialist, Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK), has added a low-capacity model to its sensor family - MCS10.

The MCS10 multi-axis sensors can simultaneously capture up to three forces (tension and compression) and three moments (clockwise and counterclockwise), in different combinations, with accuracy class up to 0.1, making it ideal for control tasks in production and assembly lines - and automated test benches.

Engineers can choose their sensor with the number of channels required (up to six), tailoring the solution to their needs and reducing cost on unnecessary items. The sensor’s high precision and compensation for crosstalk ensures they receive accurate measurement results.

There’s an option to add TEDS technology which enables the installed data acquisition unit to automatically detect the MCS10, so it's ready for immediate use, without extensive parameterization. It has multiple measurement combinations, offering engineers greater flexibility and cost savings, as they can order the solution to specifically match their needs.

MCS10 achieves the requirements of the IP67 degree of protection, ensuring it can withstands moisture, dust, and vibration - and can handle up to 200 % overload even in the harshest industrial environments.

The new sensor offers capacities of 2 kN (Fz), 0.5 kN (Fx and Fy) and can measure bending moments up to 20 Nm. With this new model the MCS10 family features all over seven models up to 200 kN / 40 kN / 40 kN. Sensors with even higher capacities are also available as custom sensors.
