On March 21, 2017, Red Lion Controls, the global experts in monitoring, communication and control for industrial networking and automation, announced the new Graphite® Edge Controller.
This new compact rugged industrial controller provides highly scalable I/O and combines data visualization and networking with industry standard IEC 61131 control capabilities in an easy-to-deploy, small footprint.
This Graphite Edge Controller is suitable for factory and process automation customers who need a rugged industrial controller possessing a broad range of operating temperatures to both control and monitor machinery in harsh environments.
Easy-to-use tools offer customers the potential to rapidly develop logic controls using well-known IEC 61131 programming languages and to interconnect devices by using any of over 300 industrial protocols. These tools also provide data logging and web serving functionality.
The Graphite Edge Controller is an important product to round out Red Lion’s rugged Graphite platform. Its all-metal construction and broadly expandable I/O capabilities allow customers to use Edge Controllers in the harshest of environments, at virtually any scale – from factory automation applications to remote process applications.

This Graphite Edge Controller is available with Crimson® 3.0 software featuring Crimson Control, offering customers with the potential to interconnect devices using more than 300 industrial protocols and IEC 61131 programming languages, such as, structured text, function block and ladder logic, in order to solve specific application requirements.
The addition of these control options to our robust Crimson communication capabilities means that organizations can reduce equipment cost and system complexity without compromising on reliability or flexibility.

The new controller provides the integrated I/O slot that supports small applications and also allows effortless scaling for large applications using Red Lion Graphite Expansion Racks. The expansion racks allow the addition of up to 25 additional modules to an Edge Controller.
Modules offer expanded capabilities including PID control, analog and digital I/O, and additional specialized communication options such as PROFIBUS DP and DeviceNet.
The Graphite platform has a broad array of plug-in modules, a wide operating temperature range and rugged aluminum construction that together help customers to connect, monitor and control processes in order to meet a wide variety of industrial automation requirements in both extreme and factory locations.
