New Positioning Sensor from SICK

SICK has added another new sensor to the Inspector P series, Inspector P30 position sensor. All the sensors under the Inspector P series are known for their flexible part location method and precise positioning of a known target.

This series of sensors are capable of giving the position data of even irregularly shaped objects, this method of identification is called blob detection.

Inspector P30

The new P30 sensor communicates the X, Y and the rotation angle of the target through the TCP/IP Ethernet or through four  digital switching outputs. While the user is working on known targets, he can add in what is called ‘grip regions’ in order to check if the part is unobstructed and is in a position to be picked up easily by a robot.

By using the ‘blob tool’ the P30 sensor is able to work on objects with irregular shapes. In order to use the tool, the user needs to feed in the pixel intensity, area, number of blobs and rotation angle through the TCP/IP. The user can set a ‘pass region,’ which will trigger an I/O signal as and when the blob is correctly positioned.

The Inspector P30 sensor comes with features such as high-speed positioning and guidance, additional digital output, precise pixel position through Ethernet and low cost solution. It also has an integrated lighting and the lenses can be switched as per the application. Additional accessories such as dome light and colour filters are provided to make the inspection of shiny or metallic objects easy. The Inspector P30 is effective in complicated vision applications as well hence helps reduce the cost of such systems.
