mainSENSOR is based on a novel measurement concept created by Micro-Epsilon to combine the benefits of inductive and magnetic sensors. Magneto-inductive sensors are commonly employed as an alternative to inductive and proximity sensors in process automation, packaging, and machine monitoring applications.
The sensor generates a continuous, linear signal by measuring the distance to a magnet mounted on the measurement item. Using varied strength magnets, measurement ranges of 20 mm to 55 mm could be obtained. To adjust the measurement range, just change the magnet.
Flexible Sensor Concept

Due to their adaptable design, the sensors are suitable for a variety of applications, particularly those requiring a large number of units. Standard sensors are available in stainless steel M12, M18, and M30 housings, as well as flat plastic housings appropriate for industrial applications. Serial applications can readily accommodate customer-specific adjustments to the plate and sensor housing.
Defining the Measuring Range using Magnets

Magnets are utilized as targets in the magneto-inductive measurement principle. However, changing the measurement range simply requires swapping the magnet. Additional calibration or sensor settings are unnecessary. As a result, a single sensor can measure distances ranging from 20 to 55mm.
Measurement through Objects

Magneto-inductive sensors differ from traditional measuring technologies in that they can measure through non-ferromagnetic materials, including metals such as aluminum or stainless steel. This provides a clear advantage in applications involving closed systems or sealed housings, where the sensor and magnet can be mounted separately. As a result, the sensor itself can be installed securely in harsh or hard-to-access locations without compromising measurement reliability.
