MTS has added a new Temposonics Model MB stainless steel sensor to its magnetostrictive position sensors product range for mobile hydraulics industry.
The sensor has been exclusively developed for peripheral connection to hydraulic cylinders and can be utilized in steer-by-wire applications. The sensor is appropriate for fixing on double-acting steering cylinders due to its small size and M14 × 1,5 thread.

A magnet is incorporated in the piston to convey the position to the sensor via a nonferrous cylinder wall. They can operate in a surplus capability to meet stringent safety needs using two sensors that are mounted externally.
The sensor is ideal for direct screw fitting in differential cylinders. A ring magnet, which is placed on the piston, glides across the sensor rod to mark the position. Therefore, the sensor provides the versatility to be attached on the cylinder or outside. The position sensor comes with a 12 V supply to determine the range between 72 and 250 mm. The sensor can be easily installed due to its compact size. It is capable of delivering high-precision position feedback using analog voltage output.
The sensor has a high-survivability rating because of its high signal-to-noise ratio and a vibration profile, which satisfies ISO 16750-3 specification. In order to assure that the electrical connections are dust and watertight, the sensor has 69 K Ingress Protection rating.
