Isotech Introduces Linear Position Sensors for Low Friction Air Cylinder Actuators

Isotech, a Hatfield, Pennsylvania-based manufacturer of precision linear motion products for OEM, medical, military, in-plant and industrial, has added the Airpel air cylinder actuators to its product offering. The non-stiction air cylinder with non-contact GMR sensor technology has been designed to provide a high degree of accuracy in linear position.

Isotech's GMR Sensor equipped Airpel Air Cylinder

The GMR (Giant Magneto Restrictive) sensor technology can be integrated with any Airpel non-stiction cylinder and uses magnetically activated cylinder sensors, which do not require any external adjustment to the magnetic field polarity. Isotech’s non-stiction air cylinder actuators feature a stainless steel piston fitted precisely to a borosilicate glass cylinder. Its unique design enables an air bearing airflow effect that eliminates friction around the piston and extends its service life.

The President of Isotech, Joe Casillo stated that the GMR switching sensors enable Isotech to provide Airpels with enhanced magnetically activated cylinder sensors for better precision. Casillo also stated that the sensors can be easily fitted by customers into existing functional Airpel actuators.

The GMR sensors are encased in a durable plastic shell and feature an LED window that provides an access to the switching signal. The installation of the GMR sensors can be easily completed by sliding the sensors into T-slot aluminum tracks, which are then mounted onto the air cylinders. The tracks are then positioned as per customer requirements and bonded along the cylinders length. NPN or PNP outputs are provided with the GMR sensors along with extension cables of up to 5 m lengths. The sensors are operational at 10 V to 30 V DC and offer a repeatability of less than 0.2 mm.

The Airpel air cylinder actuators equipped with GMR sensors are ideal for use in pneumatic driving devices for positioning, tensioning, weighing, calibration and measuring.
