Follow-Up Order for Opsens Sensor Systems for Reservoir Surveillance

An existing client has awarded a follow-up order for two of Opsens’ OPS-Z reservoir systems. The initial successful installation of an observation well in January of this year for the client in a major CO2-enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project was the reason for the follow-up order of the multiple-gauge type of casing conveyed systems.

Such systems facilitate unhindered access within the casing for conducting supplementary surveillance surveys. Opsens Solutions utilized its past downhole system design experience and its complex flow dynamics simulations for designing the OPS-Z system for facilitating sensor isolation inside the well’s cemented annulus while maintaining pressure communication at the same time with the formation.  The ensuing integrity logs relating to the integrity of the cement annulus run by the client in the first observation well confirmed that design challenges of the well were met.

Patents for these sensor systems are pending. These systems are cemented downhole permanently for offering temperature and pressure measurements in real time at multiple elevations inside the target horizon.

The system depicts the company’s continual commitment in developing reservoir surveillance solutions to be used in unconventional gas projects, geological CO2 storage and CO2-EOR. The company’s OPP-W fiber optic sensor solution offers dependable temperature and pressure information regarding operating SAGD wells to oil sands producers for the thermal recovery market.

These systems allow SAGD operators to reduce lifting and operating expenses and enhance steam/oil ratios through the capability of controlling buttonhole pressure confidentially at high temperatures in artificial lift systems like electrical submersible systems. In multiple well operations this system can affect savings in terms of millions of dollars through the reduction of fuel for the generation of steam and water treatment expenses.

Gaétan Duplain, President of Opsens Solutions informed that the OPS-Z system offers information that is vital for optimizing conformance of CO2 and also manage and optimize manufacturing and injection operations effectively.
