Synaptics Announces New ClearPad S788x Automotive Touch Controllers with Proximity Sensing

Synaptics Incorporated, the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced a new family of feature-rich touch controller solutions designed specifically for the durability requirements and safety needs of the automotive market.

The new ClearPad® automotive solutions include S7883, S7884, S7885, and S7886. The S7883/4 (80 channels) and S7884/6 (102 channels) enable touchscreens up to 14 inches and an industry-leading 17 inches, respectively.

Synaptics’ new ClearPad S788x family of touch controllers detect proximity (hand coming towards the display) and input from users wearing gloves or with moisture present on their screen and fingertips – features critical to ever-changing vehicular climate conditions. Additionally, the S7884/86 products feature Synaptics’ innovative ClearForce™ pressure sensing technology, enabling variable force to power unique touchscreen features specified by OEMs and their Tier 1 suppliers.

Synaptics’ new S788x family meets ISO 11452 standards for automotive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), Automotive Electronics Council (AEC-Q100) specifications for use in harsh automotive environments and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). Synaptics is QMS certified to ISO 9001 with a TS-16949 compliant supply chain.

“We are thrilled to help shape the future of human interface in the automotive world during these very exciting times as the auto industry rapidly changes. Our industry leading and broad automotive portfolio is unmatched with innovative touch, display and biometrics playing a critical role in tomorrow’s vehicles,” said John Brady, senior director, product marketing, Smart Display Division, Synaptics.
