Scientists at the North Carolina State University have invented a method to integrate gallium nitride (GaN) sensing units and its associated equipments into silicon-made computer chips.
This innovation will lead to the development of high-energy and intense voltage equipments vital for the advancement of power transmission devices for use in military data transfer and intelligent network technology. According to a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and a co-holder of the patent, GaN is capable of supplying more energy than the traditional transistors and functions rapidly.
The integration of GaN into the computer chips provides a larger range of radio frequency and this unique feature permits its deployment in high-quality transmission devices.
The NC State’s GaN research is financially supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is currently granting further researches in the same field.
