Siemens Launches SIQuench Technology in the U.S.

Siemens, a leader in electrical infrastructure solutions, recently released its SIQuench® for GM-SG and SIQuench® Core arc mitigation technologies to the U.S. market. Both are designed to enhance reliability in medium-voltage systems by reducing arc energy released within the switchgear – thus, minimizing equipment damage as well as repair costs.

SIQuench for GM-SG is an active arc mitigation system specifically designed for the GM-SG family of medium-voltage, air-insulated switchgear. This withdrawable module utilizes the SIQuench device to swiftly extinguish internal arcing faults, significantly reducing the damaging effects often associated with such incidents, including rapid pressure rise, contamination, and both thermal and toxic material release. This UL listed solution minimizes equipment damage and drastically reduces downtime after an internal arcing fault.

In addition to the GM-SG module, Siemens is introducing SIQuench Core to the U.S. market. UL-recognized, this OEM component brings the same advanced arc mitigation technology to a wide range of medium-voltage switchgear platforms.

Both solutions help reduce service outages by ensuring quicker recovery and continuity of operations and boast of continuous self-monitoring via alarms on any abnormal condition. The SIQuench systems are reusable, able to operate five times without the need for replacement, and require no maintenance for up to 20 years.
