Emerson Launches World's First PEX Liners for Magnetic Flow Meters

Today, Emerson announced the release of PEX liners for its Rosemount 8750 W Magnetic Flow Meter, Rosemount 8705 Flanged Magnetic Flow Meter, and Rosemount MS Magnetic Flow Meter sensors designed for water/wastewater and other slurry or abrasive applications. The new PEX liner gives users a longer lasting, PFAS free, and more cost effective flow meter solution that simplifies stocking and compliance while improving reliability in chemically aggressive conditions.

Existing liner solutions have relatively poor wear resistance to both chemical attack and abrasive slurries, emitting harmful chemicals as they wear. These solutions are also expensive to purchase and maintain, with liner flaring often occurring if meters are not installed promptly or removed temporarily and then reinstalled. Existing solutions also present stocking and inventory challenges, because different applications require different liner types, an issue compounded by their relatively high cost.

To address these issues, Rosemount magnetic flow meters now provide a PEX liner option that is not available from other suppliers. This exclusivity enables end users to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) concerns and durability challenges, without changing measurement technology or suppliers.

PEX liners formulated without PFAS help end users respond to increasing regulatory, environmental and public scrutiny, while maintaining liner performance. This simplifies material selection and stocking compared to fluoropolymer-based liners, as the latter can differ in materials of construction, depending on the application.

The PEX liners' crosslinked molecular structure delivers high abrasion resistance, making it suitable for wastewater, slurries, and other applications with entrained solids where liner wear can reduce product life. Even with all these advantages, PEX liners are typically less expensive than alternative solutions. PEX liners are available now for line sizes up to 8 inches, with liners for larger line sizes under development.
