Officials at the Mississippi Department of Transportation are experimenting on a novel system, having the capacity to weigh and inspect certain trucks while rolling down the highway.
The officials reported to the Clarion-Ledger that this innovative system helps in reducing the total number of trucks stopped for evaluations by 20 % to 30 %.
The system is being trialed at a weigh centre close by Moss Point called the Orange Grove and is mounted in a van for its usage in any other location. The transport will be expanding the usage of this intelligent Roadside System across the state, confining it to a central database.
According to Willie Huff, Enforcement chief, the system employs infrared cameras, weight-in-motion sensors, and other technology for inspecting credentials and driving details with the local and federal databases. The financial aid for implementing this system has been provided by a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
