Melexis Launches Extended HDR Image Sensor for Night Vision Applications

Melexis has added the MLX75412 extended HDR Image Sensor to its "Avocet" series of sensors. The sensor has "Autoview", an adaptive histogram remapping function, and "Autobrite", an automatic extended high dynamic range (Extended HDR) and exposure control function. These two functions help simplify the design of HDR cameras.

MLX75412-Out of Tunnel

Melexis’ Avocet image sensor series has a resolution of 1024x512 pixels and up to 154dB Extended HDR in every frame with a 60fps full resolution frame rate. In terms of SNR10, the sensitivity is 25nW/cm2 @ 25°C @ 535nm.

The MLX75412 sensor can be used in focus applications, including automotive driver assistance applications, transportation/heavy vehicle cameras, truck blind spot cameras, fleet safety cameras, security/surveillance applications, night vision applications and in outdoor all weather cameras.

During the tests, automotive imagers with the Avocet MLX75412 sensor had the ability to distinguish even faded lane markings. This feature would help in adhering to the New Car Assessment Program requirements of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The sensor can adapt to extreme light conditions and improve detection of vehicles and lanes.

The MLX75412 sensor has adequate night sensitivity and can cope with low light scenes. The Glass-BGA has an anti-reflective coating specifically developed for night vision. This coating minimizes stray light and reduces light reflectivity. For near infrared light in the range of 800-1000 nm, the sensor has enhanced responsivity.
