Pulse Electronics Releases New Sidewinder AC Current Sensors

Pulse Electronics, an electronic components provider has unveiled a new product, the Sidewinder AC current sensors which are unique as they do not require a core.

Thus when compared to the traditional current sense transformers, the Sidewinder AC is much more economical, easier to assemble and construct and also very light. A highly linear output ranging from 0.1 to 1000 amperes is provided by the sensors and hence these sensors prove to be ideal for applications such as power monitoring, smart meters, circuit breaker panels, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), load balancing, renewable energy and storage along with distributed power generation.

Glenn Roemer, who is the Field Application Engineer at Pulse Electronics Power Division, states that the new sensing product could meter, sense and record more accurately than the previous devices as it complies with all stringent specifications in the market.

A phase error margin of <0.05 degree, a low temperature coefficient and a 100 KHz bandwidth are featured in these current sensors. Based on the Rogowski Coil Principle, these sensors also utilize precision winding techniques for controlling the parameters which have a great influence on the output voltage. This sensor could be made in several shapes and thicknesses including the traditional round shape, and are supplied in the form of trays and other packing options.
