GainSpan Demonstrates Wi-Fi Connectivity Solutions at Freescale Technology Forum 2012

GainSpan is exhibiting a wide range of new and expanded capabilities for its Wi-Fi connectivity solutions at the Freescale Technology Forum Americas (FTF), in San Antonio, Texas, from June 18-21, 2012.

Based on a Kinetis processor module-incorporated Freescale Tower System, its significant potential features were demonstrated which include Serial to Wi-Fi, Limited Access Point (AP) and sensor native apps. It can be operated on an iPhone.

GainSpan is showcasing soft AP capabilities known as limited AP, through which tablets or PCs, or Wi-Fi enabled smartphones can directly link to a GainSpan Wi-Fi enabled product that ensures better user experience. GainSpan's Limited AP functionality has been demonstrated to enable LEDs and Tower System mounted sensor board having light, temperature, and accelerometer sensors with direct access to a smartphone for controlling the LEDs and sensor monitoring.

Based on a TWR-SENSOR-PAK sensor module, Freescale TWR-WIFI-G1011MI Tower System module with GainSpan's GS1011MIP Wi-Fi module on-board and a Kinetis K60 processor module, the demonstration has been conducted. The sensor data has been collected by the Kinetis MCU followed by transmission to the Wi-Fi Tower System module, through a serial connection. Functioning as a Wi-Fi Access Point, the module will be displayed in the list of Wi-Fi networks identified by the smartphone, enabling its connection following selection. When GainSpan developed native sensor app is opened sensor values and graphics will be seen on the smartphone, while the sensor board’s LEDs can be turned on and off.

Being installed on the TWR-WIFI-G1011MI module, GainSpan's GS1011MIP module leverages the entire Wi-Fi functionalities, embedded servers like HTTP, DHCP and DNS servers, the networking stack and services like application security (SSL/ TLS), XML parsing, service and device discovery (mDNS and DNS/SD). A small driver or reference code of a few Kbytes will operate on the Kinetis K60, besides customer application.
