Based on OmniVision's latest OmniBSI+ pixel architecture, the OV7695 utilizes integrates cost and performance efficiency within an ultra-compact 2.4x2.3 mm package, making it suitable for adoption in smartphones and tablets.

According to OmniVision’s product marketing manager, Henrik Miettinen, the OV7695 serves as a quality upgrade feature for those designing and developing front-facing camera solutions for tablets and smartphones. The company’s robust OmniBSI+ pixel architecture contributes to the creation of revolutionary secondary camera solution with design, cost and performance efficiency.

Based on 1.75-µ OmniBSI+ pixel architecture, the 1/13-in OV7695 provides superior full well capacity, improved sensitivity, lower cross talk and lower readout noise than traditional FSI pixel architectures. It enhances high light as well as low light performance leading to excellent dynamic range which results in higher quality color video.

Using OmniVision's proprietary technology, the sensor can enhance the image quality by removing common sources of image contamination. Furthermore, the sensor is capable of capturing high-quality VGA video at 30 fps. By supporting MIPI interface, the sensor complies with high-speed data transfer mandates of advanced smartphones and tablets.

The OV7695 is now being offered for sampling. The company will commence mass production of the product during Q1 of 2013.
