Shin-Etsu, Cambrios to Exhibit Tablet and Ultrabook Touch Sensors Based on ClearOhm Technology

Cambrios Technologies declared that it has partnered with sensor-maker Shin-Etsu Polymer for developing Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material-based large area touch sensors for Ultrabooks and tablet computers. Cambrios will exhibit tablets and Ultrabooks using these touch sensors from October 2 to 6, 2012, at CEATEC JAPAN 2012.

According to Cambrios’ Senior Director of Business Development, Dr. Rahul Gupta, following the collaboration with Shin-Etsu on behalf of touch sensors development for Ultrabooks and tablets, the company can provide ODM and OEM customers with high-performance and affordable solutions for large area touch applications. The company’s joint effort with Shin-Etsu promotes a large area touch supply chain in addition to expanding the company’s global network of film suppliers, IC suppliers, and sensor makers to contribute their services to the large area touch market.

Shin-Etsu has started pilot production of touch sensors that use ClearOhm coating material for Ultrabooks and tablets including size ranging from 7” to 15.6”. ClearOhm material has enabled the company to develop touch sensors for the automotive market.

Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material is ideal for developing high-conductivity film-based sensors with superior optical performance, ranging from 30 to 150 Ohms/square, which is mandatory for large-size touch panels and which cannot be achieved with ITO sputtered on film. With lighter weight, thinness, reduced cost and “shatter-proof” qualities, film-based sensors can be used in the place of traditional glass-based sensors for panels over 7” in size and panels with curved surfaces. ClearOhm Film- and ClearOhm Ink- based touch sensors are more cost-effective than existing technologies, enabling rapid mass-market adoption of touch-enabled Ultrabooks and all-inclusive computers.
