Kionix’ KMX61G Micro-Amp Magnetic Gyro Earns Windows 8.1 Certification

Kionix, Inc., a top-tier supplier of MEMS inertial sensors and software solutions, today announced that the KMX61G Micro-Amp Magnetic Gyro has met Microsoft’s stringent sensor fusion requirements and received Windows 8.1 certification.

Introduced earlier this year, Kionix’s KMX61G is a high performance 6-axis accelerometer-magnetometer combination device with industry-leading sensor fusion software that delivers the first highly accurate synthetic gyro output using as little as one-tenth the power of a traditional 9-axis solution.

With integral sensor fusion software and leading auto-calibration algorithms, the KMX61G offers device manufacturers a complete solution. In addition to being a high performance eCompass, it provides 9-axis motion sensing and can run on either an embedded “sensor hub” microcontroller or on an application processor. In addition, it provides sophisticated power management techniques enabling designers to manage sensor interaction and data processing with minimal overhead.

“Earning Windows 8.1 certification is a major achievement for this new product and technology. As the first device in its class to be certified, the KMX61G definitively shows that device manufacturers now have a new option for low power 9-axis rotational outputs for their Windows 8 and 8.1-based products,” said Paul Bryan, EVP Product Marketing and Strategy, Kionix, Inc.

Aimed at consumer electronics applications, the KMX61G allows product designers to meet the increasing demand for low-power 9-axis functionality in rapidly growing markets, including wearables, smartphones and tablets, and health and fitness devices. With the KMX61G, these products can now incorporate a full 9-axis solution with a substantially lower power budget, opening up a wide range of new applications and leading to wider adoption of gyroscopic functionality in the products that we use on a daily basis.
