Intellitect Water Finds Sand to be the Cause of False DPD Data

Following the installation of in-pipe drinking water quality monitoring sondes, distribution engineers discovered an occasional significant disparity between the Intellisondes’ data and results from grab samples tested by a photometer tablet (DPD) method. For most of the time, there was close agreement between the two methods, but periodically, the photometer results varied wildly, whilst the in-pipe monitor showed relatively stable values.

Hawaii Scientists Study Deep-Sea Nutrient Samples with SEAL AA3 Segmented Flow Analyzer

Since 1988, scientists from the University of Hawaii have been conducting almost monthly deep-sea research expeditions to collect water samples for subsequent laboratory analysis. Originally designed to characterize subtle long-term changes in environments that were believed to be stable, the work has revealed some surprising conclusions. For example, it has become evident that even in these quasi-stable ocean systems, gradual environmental change can often result in abrupt shifts from the equilibrium state.
