Everyday materials found in the kitchen, such as aluminum foil, sticky note paper, sponges and tape, have been used by a team of electrical engineers from KAUST to develop a low-cost sensor that can detect external stimuli, including touch, pressure, temperature, acidity and humidity.

"Humidity is one of the most controlled and most monitored aspects nowadays owing to its great importance in a whole range of industrial processes or in areas such as food monitoring, air quality, biomedicine or chemistry," explained Aitor Urrutia, who is from Auritz/Burguete, but who currently resides in Irúñea-Pamplona. "Yet problems remain in terms of measuring and monitoring it in specific situations such as environments where the humidity level is very high".

Michell Introduces Improved Version of HygroSmart I7000XP Interchangeable Relative Humidity Sensor

Michell Instruments has launched an improved version of its interchangeable relative humidity sensor – the HygroSmart I7000XP – which enables users to carry out maintenance on industrial relative humidity and temperature transmitters in as little as 30 seconds. The new unit has been developed by Michell’s research department and features the latest polymer capacitive technology to give an accuracy of 1%RH.
