Innovative Smartphone Allows Users to Experience Physical Tactile Feedback by Bending Their Apps

Researchers at Queen’s University’s Human Media Lab have developed the world’s first full-colour, high-resolution and wireless flexible smartphone to combine multitouch with bend input. The phone, which they have named ReFlex, allows users to experience physical tactile feedback when interacting with their apps through bend gestures.

UC-based Engineers Develop More Efficient Pedestrian Detection System

What if computers could recognize objects as well as the human brain could? Electrical engineers at the University of California, San Diego have taken an important step toward that goal by developing a pedestrian detection system that performs in near real-time (2-4 frames per second) and with higher accuracy (close to half the error) compared to existing systems. The technology, which incorporates deep learning models, could be used in "smart" vehicles, robotics and image and video search systems.

Mitsubishi Electric's High-Precision Air-Quality Sensor Also Capable of Sensing Particle Density

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced today that it has developed a small, high-precision air-quality sensor, the world first to detect all fine particles measuring no more than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, called PM2.5, as well as pollen and dust. It also senses the density of particles precisely.
