Market for Sensors in Smart Clothing Forecast to Reach $476 Million by 2018

The market for sensors and "smart" materials used in clothing will grow from roughly $212 million this year to more than $1.8 billion by 2021, according to a new report from industry analyst firm NanoMarkets.

Banner Engineering announces the XS26-2 expandable safety controller. With the capability to add up to eight expansion I/O modules, the XS26-2 platform was designed to easily adapt to diverse automation requirements and address a wide range of safeguarding applications. The base controller models have 26 input terminals, four terminals for two redundant safety PNP outputs and a USB connection for loading configurations. Base models are available with an optional on-board display or an embedded Ethernet IP/Modbus TCP capability for access to live I/O status and system diagnostics to assist in troubleshooting and commissioning.

Northrop Grumman to Produce Sensor Payloads for Fifth and Sixth SBIRS GEO Satellites

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a $422 million contract from Lockheed Martin to produce sensor payloads on the fifth and sixth Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites, known as GEO-5 and GEO-6. The U.S. Air Force's SBIRS provides the nation with continuous early warning of ballistic missile launches and other tactical intelligence.
